ARSENAL 3-0 RENNES

76: Oh, I was so astounded by the celebration that I forgot to mention Aubameyang was booked for the celebration. Kill joy!

74: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored six braces in all competitions this season (2+ goals); more than any other Premier League player in the 2018-19 campaign.

72: And yes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang went behind the Rennes goal to grab his famous Black Panther mask.

ARSENAL 3-0 RENNES | AUBAMEYANG

71: Big goal, massive goal, huge goal!

Arsenal have a crucial third goal through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They now lead 4-3 on aggregate and Rennes HAVE to score to force extra time.

Substitute Henrikh Mkhitaryan spreads it wide for Sead Kolasinac down the left. The left-back crosses for Aubameyang to tap into an empty net.

70: Close! Henrik Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi nearly prove me wrong with their first involvements. The Armenia star whips the ball back to the late arriving Iwobi, who drags it wide.

68: Nope. Not convinced by this double substitution.

Unai Emery has decided to throw Alex Iwobi and Henrik Mkhitaryan on for the final 20 minutes. Mesut Ozil trudges off, shortly followed by Alexandre Lacazette.

65: Offside! Arsenal cleared the subsequent corner but only as far as Bensebaini, who smashes the post with a swerving volley. Ah, it was offside. As you were…

63: Ismaila Sarr is starting to get going down that right touchline. He nutmegs Nacho Monreal before seeing his low, fizzed delivery knocked behind for a corner.

63: Oh this is going to get seriously nervy. Sead Kolasinac tracks Ismaila Sarr’s give-and-go and capitalises on a heavy touch to block the shot.

60: Not sure I can remember a game where both sides are so unashamedly obvious in trying to get a member of the opposition sent off. It’s pathetic.

“Apparently English gravity is a little stronger than French gravity. Only reason I can think of that the Rennes players have so much difficulty staying on their feet,” says Dom on Twitter.

58: “You idiot!” screams someone in the office. Alexandre Lacazette, who is already on a yellow card, barges into Bensebaini on the touchline. It’s not a booking but there was no need to give the referee a decision to make.

Grenier is booked for urging the referee to give Lacazette his marching orders.

55: Sevilla literally equalised as I pressed submit. Munir El Haddadi with the goal. 4-4 on aggregate.

Back at the Emirates, Arsenal have themselves a free-kick. Aaron Ramsey’s delivery comes out to Lacazette – who sends it over.

54: Slavia Prague have gone 2-1 up against Sevilla. The Czech side are now 4-3 up on aggregate. Could be a big scalp heading out of the competition…

51: Woodwork! Grenier catches Mustafa sleeping deep in Arsenal territory. He cuts inside and fires against the base of the post! So close to that all-important away goal.

48: Renners straight on the front-foot with Traore winning an early corner. The initial delivery is headed clear by Mustafi before Koscielny blocks Bourigeaud’s rebound.

ARSENAL 2-0 RENNES

45: And we’re back underway. You would hope Arsenal could score another quick-fire brace to put this out of sight – but the Gunners don’t usually do things the easy way.

No changes for either side.

ARSENAL 2-0 RENNES

HT: Arsenal level on aggregate and will go through on away goals as things stand. Gunners fans couldn’t ask for much more having seen their side come flying out the traps.

Rennes couldn’t handle Arsenal in the early stages but DID show a few signs of revival towards the end of the half.

You suspect Unai Emery’s side are going to have to survive one or two scary moments before seeing this out.

Latest Europa League scores: Benfica 0-0 Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Milan 0-1 Frankfurt, Slavia Prague 1-1 Sevilla, Villarreal 1-0 Zenit.

47: Arsenal wisely look to defend this lead as the break approaches. Rennes’ knocking the ball from left to right to try and find some space. None to be found.

45: Hatem Ben Arfa looks to make something happen before the half-time whistle, but having cut inside he drills one wide from 20 yards.

Ironic cheers from Arsenal fans. Standard. Four minutes of added time for an extraordinary amount of play-acting.

43: “I would feel bad for our offside goal but then I remember the amount of play-acting and moaning the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa did in first leg,” says Paul on Twitter.

I suspect many Gooners (and neutrals) are in agreement with you Paul.

40: Lovely move from the hosts. Mesut Ozil cuts inside from the left before stroking the ball across to Aaron Ramsey. The departing Welshman thwacks it first time but it rises high above the crossbar.

37: Stop-start-stop-start. Referee Andris Treimanis is having his ear chewed off for every foul Arsenal commit. Quite obvious that Rennes want a man advantage tonight.

35: Wooosh! That would have been spectacular from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who attempted to scissor kick Mesut Ozil’s chipped cross from 15-yards out. Quite a poor connection that sees the ball drift miles wide.

33: Honestly, someone have a word with Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman has just flown in on Niang right in front of the referee. It looked reckless and fully deserving of the booking he receives. Could have quite easily been a red on another night. Crazy.

30: Latest Europa League scores: Benfica 0-0 Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Milan 0-1 Frankfurt, Slavia Prague 1-0 Sevilla, Villarreal 1-0 Zenit.

28: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang receives no punishment. So crafty a kick that I don’t think he could even be retrospectively banned.

27: Aubameyang challenges for a header and is a bit naughty to leave a bit of stud on Da Silva. The Rennes’ player lifts up his shirt to show the bight red marks on his torso.

25: Rennes’ Benjamin Bourigeaud looks to bring down a lofty, diagonal ball forward but it rolls out of play for a goal kick. The visitors aren’t piecing together any eye-catching attacks.

22: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been directly involved in 14 goals in his last 13 appearances at the Emirates (10 goals, 4 assists).

20: Booked! Clear frustration from Rennes defender Mexer, who drags down Alexandre Lacazette. Bit harsh on second viewing.

17: I wouldn’t begrudge Rennes feeling upset about Arsenal’s second. Aubameyang is offside when collecting Ramsey’s pass. No VAR in this competition of course…

ARSENAL 2-0 RENNES | MAITLAND-NILES

14: Dreamland! What was all the fuss about? It’s all square on aggregate!

Arsenal are firmly in control of this tie thanks to a controversial Ainsley Maitland-Niles goal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang plays a neat one-two with Aaron Ramsey, but he’s in an offside position when collecting the return pass. The linesman’s flag stays down and the ball is scooped over to Maitland-Niles, who heads home.

11: Arsenal finding plenty of gaps in this Rennes side. I’m not really sure the French outfit are clear on what they should be doing. It’s neither defence or attack really. Just a… well an average display.

8: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored in five of his last eight starts in all competitions for Arsenal (5 goals) but this was his first goal away from home since December.

7: The flares have stopped but the Rennes supporters continue to sing their hearts out.

Just a glimmer of a second for Arsenal as Aaron Ramsey plays the ball over to Alexandre Lacazette but Rennes keeper Tomas Koubek rushed out of his box to deny him.

ARSENAL 1-0 RENNES | AUBAMEYANG

4: That’s the start they needed! Arsenal have notched up one of the two unanswered goals they wanted inside four minutes.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles does well to find Aaron Ramsey, who picks out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and he simply doesn’t miss those!

Rennes rattled – but their task remains the same. Score.

3: A cloud of smoke is covering Petr Cech’s goal area. I suspect that’s why Niang just had a pop from 45-yards out!

2: Good grief! These Rennes fans are kick off already… They are bouncing around with flares going off all over the place. It’s a pyro party!

I imagine somewhere in France – a Rennes HR employee is already writing out a cheque for the inevitable UEFA fine.

ARSENAL 0-0 RENNES

1: My sincerest apologies for the late start. The fella supposed to be doing this game decided to go on a jolly to Cheltenham. Alright for some!

Anyway, after a terrifyingly bright lights show – we’re underway at the Emirates Stadium!

Evening…

18:40: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Europa League from the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners welcome their Ligue 1 opponents trailing 3-1 from last Thursday’s first leg.

Now I’m no doom-monger – but since the inception of the Europa League in 2009-10, only one side has progressed to the following round after losing 3-1 in the first leg of a knockout tie.

That was an English side though – Fulham against Juventus in 2009.

London connection.

Anyway, I’ll be back to start the coverage after the conclusion of Dynamo Kiev vs Chelsea. Below are the line-ups.

Arsenal XI: Cech, Maintland-Niles, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Ramsey, Ozil, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

Subs: Leno, Mkhitaryan, Torreira, Iwobi, Suarez, Guendouzi, Nketiah.

Rennes XI: Koubek, Da Silva, Mexer, Bensebaini, Traore, Sarr, Grenier, Bourigeaud, Andre, Niang, Ben Arfa.

Subs: Badiashile, Zeffane, Doumbia, Gelin, Siliki, Del Castillo, Hunou.

ARSENAL vs RENNES

Arsenal will assess Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s back injury ahead of their Europa League last-16 second leg with Rennes.

Mkhitaryan missed Sunday’s Premier League win over his former club Manchester United but trained on Wednesday and will have a check before the game.

Alexandre Lacazette is available after UEFA reduced his three-match suspension to two games on appeal, while Lucas Torreira returns from a domestic ban. Sokratis Papastathopoulos is suspended, though, after his red card in last week’s 3-1 first-leg loss in France.

Arsenal provisional squad: Leno, Cech, Maitland-Niles, Lichtsteiner, Jenkinson, Mustafi, Koscielny, Mavropanos, Monreal, Kolasinac, Torreira, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Elneny, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Suarez, Ramsey, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette, Nketiah.
