Jamie Redknapp believes West Ham will be just fine whether they keep star man Marko Arnautovic or not.

A Chinese club bid £36million for the Austrian striker, who is also being offered more than £250,000 a week. West Ham responded by telling him to honour his contract, which lasts until 2020.

Arnautovic, who joined the Hammers from Stoke City in 2017, is said to be keen to leave the London Stadium to challenge for titles in China.

His brother and agent Danijel featured on talkSPORT on Thursday and urged West Ham to allow Arnautovic to leave for China.

Arnautovic has been in good form for West Ham this season, scoring eight goals in 17 appearances before Saturday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal. But Redknapp, who spoke on Sky Sports ahead of that game, does not fear for West Ham’s future without him.

Redknapp pointed out that the Hammers have replaced top players before, using Dimitri Payet — who left to join Marseille in 2017 — as an example.

‘You want to keep him… of course you do,’ said Redknapp. ‘But West Ham will survive with or without him.

‘They’ve done it before – with (Dimitri) Payet. Someone else comes in. There’s always somebody else that will come along.

‘But what you don’t want is to be held to account by somebody who says: “I want this”. It doesn’t look good.

‘His brother needs to keep his mouth shut. He’s not helping him at all.’

Agent Danijel said in a statement earlier this week: ‘West Ham bought Marko for peanuts. They paid £20m for him, which is nothing in the current market.

‘They bought him to keep them in the Premier League last season and he did that. He took every award at the club — best player, signing of the season and the players’ award.

‘Now West Ham have a fantastic offer. It is close to double what they paid for him. He wants to go to a new market and challenge for titles. This is what he wants.

‘It is his great desire that West Ham accept the offer from China.’

Arnautovic started against Arsenal after West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini told Sky Sports in a pre-match interview: ‘Marko is involved with the game, not thinking about other things.

‘He doesn’t have a problem. At the moment he is in the starting XI and involved in the game.’
