Liverpool fans were blown away by Naby Keita’s performance against Burnley on Wednesday evening, leaving some to question why he does not start more regularly.

The Guinea international was a calming influence on a much-changed Reds side at Turf Moor as they came from behind to win 3-1.

Keita, on just his fifth start in the Premier League this season, kept things ticking over for Jurgen Klopp‘s side in the middle of the park, completing 55 of his 59 passes, a whopping 93 per cent – more than any other player on the park.

The performance earned him rave reviews from team-mate Jordan Henderson when he spoke to the club’s official website after the game.

‘He started the season brilliantly and obviously then getting an injury set him back a little bit. But you can see how good a player he is,’ he told told Liverpoolfc.com.

‘That shot with the left foot and the save from Hart was fantastic. In his overall play he is comfortable on the ball and he helps build up play from the back.

‘He drives the ball forward, which is big for us. I thought he was outstanding, along with everybody else really.’

And Henderson wasn’t the only one singing the praises of the former RB Leipzig man, with fans and former Reds stars also enthused by his latest display.

John Arne Riise was one of the first to tweet his approval, stating: ‘Keita… what a player!!!! He will be so important for us.’

Twitter user @Kikirani19 said: ‘Finally a midfielder who PUSHES FORWARD!! I’m done with all the side passing…. Loved him today,’ before adding a fire emoji.

One of the more pertinent questions though from fans was why Keita has been used so sparingly by Klopp.

Liverpool fan @ohadamk asked the question: ‘How can Klopp bench a player of this calibre?’ before adding, ‘Should be starting every game.’

Liverpool fan account @TheRedDebate put together two compilations of the 23-year-old’s best bits from Turf Moor, amassing a total of 4 minutes and 40 seconds.

After watching it is clear to see why supporters are keen to see more of him.

Klopp has a history of giving new players time to acclimatise to the Premier League, most notably with Fabinho this season.

But having seen the Keita’s composed display on Wednesday, he may just be convinced that his summer signing is ready to be fully immersed in their title challenge.
