Premier League: Man Utd news: David de Gea admission made after Champions League win over Young Boys | Football | Sport

That is the view of De Gea’s team-mate Phil Jones.

United struggled for fluency and nearly fell behind 20 minutes from time, but De Gea thwarted Young Boys with a stunning save.

’s side then summoned up the spirit of the Sir Alex Ferguson era when Marouane Fellaini scored a last-gasp goal deep in stoppage time of the second half to settle the game at Old Trafford last night.

Fellaini’s decisive strike prompted Mourinho to act furiously and he was widely condemned on social media after he lifted and threw over a crate of water bottles on the touchline.

De Gea’s stop was a turning point in the game, and Jones insists the Spaniard played a key role in the victory.

“It was tough we did well in the first half and could have been 3-0, 4-0 up,” Jones said.

“We are thankful to David de Gea for pulling off a wonderful save.”

When asked for his thoughts on the performance, Jones added: “It was not pretty but we got it done.

“I am happy to play, it is frustrating when you are not, but I am ready and can prove I am good enough.”

De Gea’s save earned praise from BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage.

He said: “Incredible save by David [De Gea]. What a save that is.

“It took a deflection off Mbabu which made it even better.

“Just watch the deflection here off Mbabu, there.

“And David [De Gea], what a save that is.

“What would they do without that goalkeeper? Brilliant save.”

United have booked their place in the knockout stage of the competition with a game to spare.
